America has been in the dark for many years and this country has turned into a declining superpower since I was born, and you can see that by the music that is played on the billboard charts. It looks like on the current billboard chart, we are seeing a lot of country and western music. Country music is the music of America and it has had a bad image for a long time. In the 2000s, country music was bashed and it was white trash redneck music, and it looks like the American music has been dominated by R&B and hip-hop music, which is made by mostly African American or black descent. There are some white people that make R&B and hip-hop music, and they seem to do it very well - Eminem can pull rap music very well and the R&B groups of the '50s and '60s were primarily white. But now you don't see a domimance of R&B or hip-hop music, it looks like there is a rapid, significant increase of country and western music, along with pop-dance music. The boy bands are coming back with One Direction.
America is changing - we have been through many era - we had been through the jazz era of America, we have been through the rock era of America. The jazz era was the increase of urbanization and influence of African Americans, while the rock era is the merge of the R&B and country music, along with some elements of classical music as well. But it looks like we are going through a roots revival - European style music is starting to enter America to bring back our European roots and there has been even a British invasion to bring back our colonial roots. But it looks like country is starting to become a mainstream genre once again - country music was made for hicks but it looks like country music is not going to have a negative connotation anymore because it represents our American pride. We have become the melting pot country and it looks like that brought on the election of the first minority President - that represents a downfall of America as it is starting to lack it's heritage and start to symbolize that we were run by minorities than the majorities. The truth is - we are starting to lose our heritage and it seems like that will make the country fall apart. America lacks a culture in some era, while there is a definitive culture that is stronger than others in the other areas, the fly over country.
America has been becoming urbanized and diversified, but it looks like with the internet, we are going to start becoming more and more rural. The United States will bring back the small town and the rural lifestyle, instead of the urban, crowded lifestyle. I have nothing against urban or rural, but I see that fly over country was getting ignored, which is the food for the whole country and even the entire world. I was starting to become appalled about the idea that even of this age of mass communications and the internet, it looks like people are going to be lacking even the proper housing or running water, and that shows how lucky we are to become a American.
