I don't know what is happening, but I was flipping past the channels and I notice that the kids channels are loosing it's "kid" to it. You gotta remember, I am about 20 years old, which mean I am in the young adult stage ready to find a job and a girlfriend, and trying to complete my college education, but it doesn't mean that I have to give up my inner child once in a while. I know adults that still like to watch Spongebob and Looney Tunes.
Recently, I noticed a change in the "kid" channel. Disney Channel does have kid stuff, but I notice that the age demographic is getting older and older. Good Luck Charlie looks like it is something that is liked by adults as well as kids; you can place something like that on ABC Family or something like that. The other stuff on the Disney Channel has a kid friendly layout, such as Wizards of Waverly place, which I don't care much for.
Disney Channel is not bad, but Disney Channel has lost the "Disney" in it. Where is the Mickey Mouse and the Donald Duck, and all that classic Disney movies. Now, Disney is starting to appeal to older and older audiences, most likely teenagers and young adults. The same here with Nickeolodeon.
Nick was exclusively a kids channel, and it was the kid channel for Generation Y. I am more of the Generation Z demographic, who don't really remember the pre-Spongebob era Nick. Nick back then used to be all about the cartoons, which I don't remember too well, but now it was starting to have more teenage friendly TV shows. I don't know what is happening. Is that the sign that the kids are older than adults? I think I am beginning to think so.
A lot of the shows for the "adults" seem very childish indeed. The Cake Boss looks like these cooking scenes that you see on the Disney Channel and Glee is High School Musical. American Pickers and all the "Picker" rip offs are even starting to seem childish, since all it is going into grandmas attic. TV has gotten dysfunctional these days. I think people seem to flock to the internet to get normal, traditional TV or watch it during the daytime, which is starting to show more "normal people" television.
I know this is probably a common rant for the kid channel retro junkies, but maybe the ones that are "over kided" are weird too.
