Old technology that is still good

We are in a modern era of technology, a completely digitized, well almost completely digitized world, but there are some old school technologies still I think still work or are just simply cool.  Here are some.

1. Talking on the phone - this is by far the fastest yet way to interact with people.  E-mail is quick, but it may take longer than snail mail to respond to because some people don't even read e-mail.  Internet chat is pretty quick too, but typing and waiting for response takes time as well.  The webcam is pretty fast but the internet connection may slow things down.  The fastest way of communication is...the phone!  Talking on the good ol' phone is probably the most advanced and fastest, and most sucessful of all modern digital communications.

2. Record players - MP3 players are very complicated machines that people with digital minds can figure out.  But you have to go through the hassle of search and find through 1000s of songs, and you'll have to rewind and fast forward to skip to a certain section of a song.  A record player lets you just point a needle and it is on the exact spot.  The sound quality is way better than any MP3 player or even CD player - the record has the nice, rich sound and it is great for DJing.  Vinyl should actually comeback.  It worked.

3. Basic typewriter - no need to open up Microsoft Word, push a bunch of buttons, and do all this stuff, and you don't have to send complicated commands to a printer that doesn't work half the time.  With the typewriter, your printer always works.  But there are some things that are cool with modern high tech  word processing such as the ability to add images and to change the color of the text, but some things of the modern typewriter still works.

4. Analog radio - satellite radio has the cool things such as more stations, but you don't get your local weather, sports, and commercials , along with the hick announcers.  Satellite radio you'll have to pay for while standard radio is free and in the air.

5.  Movie theatres - now you can download a movie off of iTunes and watch a movie off of netflix, but there is nothing more epic than watching James Bond or Spiderman in the theatre, which is the only way it will work.  Adam Sandler can work for the couch, but any action, fantasy, or animated film, along with Disney needs the theatrical effects.

6. Seeing people in person - technology is not going to replace seeing people in person.  You don't get the same effect as talking to a person online when seeing them face to face.  There are many songs in which they are talking about "looking you in your eyes" but high technology doesn't replace the actual feeling.

7. Real pinball and real solitaire - pinball  on the computer is not as fun as playing pinball on a real pinball machine.  And solitaire is probably better on the computer - maybe that is honest, but not blackjack or hearts.  But a minesweeper will be safer on a computer.

8.  The jukebox - the portable jukeboxes of the 1950s are cool.  Even though it was a racket, it was a way for people to share their music in the booth.  Now we can digitize the jukeboxes  and choose many songs from the Web.

9. Drive in theatres - drive in movie is actually pretty cool and something that should be brought back.

10. An actual book - there is a generation that is obsessed with digital stimulation that the actual joys of reading a book has been taking away.   With the digital stimulation, we have lacked our imaginations that need to be developed.  Reading a book will take you places that no movies, TV shows, or websites that will ever take you.  Your own interpretation creates your own movie in your head, making the fun out of reading.
