For the most part, you can do most jobs at home if you have the right equipment, education, and motivation. You really don't have to go along with the rat race because the rat race is not cool. Why waste your time going through the everyday hassle of old school crap such as job interviews that you know that are not going to work. Then you have to deal with a bunch of assholes called the US government - which is creating more debt that will NEVER be payed off. Why are you wasting time? You are in the 21st century, where you can do more things than ever at home.
The World Wide Web is your friend. This thing can make anything possible. Back then, no one could shoot their mouth out for the whole world to be seen. Now, you can be heard. Some amazing writing by amateurs just like you could be exposed for the whole world to see. You can always show the world what you got for anything. You love to cook - no problem - show off your recipes. You don't have to be in Hollywood to be in movies anymore. With the right equipment and a YouTube account , you can be on TV. You can also be in a porno flick as well and it hasn't have to be done by Playboy or Penthouse - it could be some college girls dorm room. You can share your music to the world, your art to the world, your woodworking projects to the world. You can share anything to the world.
There are some people that have their income off of eBay and you can even become famous off of YouTube if you work the system. Or this site. Welcome to a new age - a new era. The rat race should go bye bye.
