I had been recently watching some videos of nostalgia from the teen pop era - which was about my high school days and maybe part of my elementary school days. Teen pop has been a genre of music that has been around way before I was born; it was around probably even before my parents were born, and my parents were actually born in a period where there was a lot of teen pop. Back then, there was Ricky Nelson and Bobby Vinton, etc. But I was especially grown up in a period of teen pop.
Throughout most of the 2000s decade, there was a lot of R&B and hip-hop, and there was a lot of hard rock. The musical stylings of the 1990s and the 2000s were about the same. The 1990s and 2000s had a lot of grunge influenced rock, and there was hip-hop and R&B. Most of the same R&B and hip-hop people have been around in the 1990s are around in the 2000s. The 1990s had a lot more dance music than the 2000s and we have been having a return to dance music in this decade.
But in the background of these decades, there was teen pop. I don't remember the late 90s teen pop era that much, and we had people like Hanson and the Spice Girls, B*Witched, Vitamin C. I don't remember that and I am just rambling them off, but I do remember Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys, which was targeted mainly for children at that time
But there was a teen pop era I remember and that was around 2004; just in time for me to be a teenager. We had Avirl Lavigne, Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan (when she was sober and good), and Aly & AJ, Jesse McCartney, Chris Brown, Rihanna, and Jojo. The list goes on and on. Hilary Duff and Aly & AJ were actually my favorites at my time and Aly & AJ might make a comeback, and Hilary Duff should comeback as well, and they did make some pretty good music. Then we had the Disney wave of teen pop which Hilary Duff was the start and then it came to these ones like Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, and the one we see today. Justin Beiber is another guy with teen pop but is not as cool as people like Aly & AJ or even Avirl. I used to hate Avirl Lavignes guts, but now I am realizing she is not a bad sort out there. A lot of these teen pop people are hated, but it is actually good for you to have teen idols.
I see the modern ones such as Justin Beiber - they are still cool but now I am starting to get older and to mature, and to see through the modern pop music scene. Pop music today has some good songs but it looks like our music has started to get sort of boring. The '90s actually had some good music and the '00s had some good music, and there has some good stuff of the '10s decade, but really, I think music styles are not matching my tastes. I haven't been paying attention to music trends and not worshiping them as in high school, but I am still aware.
